The 5 Tribes Committee on Review of Reservation Policy (CoRRP) has announced its decision to resume agitation, beginning with a sit-in protest at the Nagaland Civil Secretariat at 9 a.m. on July 9, 2025.
The decision was taken during a joint consultative meeting held in Kohima, informed Capt. G.K. Zhimomi, Member Secretary of the Committee. He stated that the move comes in response to the Government’s lack of action on their long-standing demands.
“If the Government has the political will, addressing the issue is not difficult,” Capt. Zhimomi said, expressing frustration that the matter has remained unresolved for 48 years, rendering the issue “indefinite.” He, however, expressed hope that the Government would not delay further.
Earlier on Sunday, the Committee had reiterated its demand for the State Government to either scrap the existing Reservation Policy or allocate the unreserved quota to the five tribes it represents. The Committee stated that these demands were clearly communicated to the Government during a meeting held on June 3.

While reaffirming its core demands, the Committee criticized the lack of progress despite the State Cabinet’s earlier decision to establish a Commission to review the existing reservation policy. It noted that no concrete steps have been taken on the key issues raised during previous discussions.
Mention may be made that Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, on July 2, appealed for patience, stating that the Commission tasked with reviewing the policy has a comprehensive mandate and would require time to submit its report.
The upcoming protest on July 9 is expected to mark a renewed phase of pressure on the Government as the 5 Tribes Committee continues to seek what it describes as long-overdue action on reservation reform.
