The District Administration of Longleng organised a Unity Run to mark Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day) today in Longleng Town.
The Unity Run was flagged off by Dharam Raj, IAS, Deputy Commissioner Longleng.
Trongdiba Tongpi, SDO Civil Longleng HQ, delivered a speech in which he paid tribute to Vallabhai Patel, the Iron man of India, who had significantly contributed to the unification of the nation.
“Today on this day when Sardar Vallabhai Patel is remembered, the Unity Run is an effort to relive the enthusiasm and energy infused by him in order to unite the diverse population towards a single cause,” Tongpi said.
He concluded his speech by stating: “Let’s run towards unity and brotherhood.”
The run started from Lempong junction and culminated at Hukpang Junction.
The participants were the personnel from District Administration, DEF Longleng, District Hospital, Longleng Town Council, Bautung GHSS, Lempong School, Christian High school, St Joseph’s School and Good Shepherd School.
Since 2014, ‘Rashtriya Ekta Diwas’ or National Unity Day has been observed by the central government to reaffirm its dedication to strengthen the unity, integrity and the security of the nation.
Patel was the first home minister and deputy prime minister of India and played an important role in the nation’s movement for independence. Through him, over 560 princely states were integrated into the Union of India.
