The NSCN/GPRN (Yung Aung) has rejected India’s Independence Day celebrations in what it terms the “Wesea region,” comprising Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, and Nagaland.

In its statement issued by its MIP, the group described August 15 as a “so-called Independence Day,” asserting that “Freedom cannot exist on oppressed land and the Wesean people will never celebrate the Independence of our oppressors.

“This day meant nothing to Wesea and our people did not become free from anything on this day,” it asserted.

The NSCN (Yung Aung) alleged that the day serves as a “painful reminder” of what it called “the relentless brutality of the Indian occupational forces,” accusing them of waging war with impunity and causing “untold pain and suffering.” It further claimed that the right to self-defence of Wesean nations is labelled as terrorism, but maintained that “our resolve is stronger than ever before” and vowed to continue its “quest for freedom.”

Calling on “all lovers of freedom in the so-called states of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and Nagaland, the NSCN (YA) urged the people to reject the “imposed celebration” by remaining indoors on August 15 as a show of solidarity, stating that such act would be a “powerful testaments of our collective resilience against the ongoing oppression.

“As India unfurl it’s colonial flag let us unfurl the truth by exposing India’s war crimes in our Region,” it stated.
