The Ao Students’ Conference (AKM) has called on the Government of Nagaland to urgently implement the prescribed pay scale for RMSA teachers, as directed by the Gauhati High Court ruling of March 16,

2022, and subsequently upheld by the Supreme Court on May 20, 2025.

In a press statement issued its president, Lanutoshi Aier and general secretary, Satemmongba, the AKM said the demand for timely implementation of the ruling is now critical, as it recognizes the genuine grievances of the Nagaland RMSA Teachers Association 2016, whose members were recruited through open competitive exams and interviews.

“The decision is an important step to ensure that teachers get the financial recognition they deserve for their service and their role in shaping the future of students,” the statement read. It added that the implementation of the pay scale would not only acknowledge the teachers’ contribution but also help foster a more conducive teaching-learning process, ultimately benefiting students.

The student body cautioned that any further postponement of the ruling would demotivate a group of highly qualified and trained teachers, which in turn could have serious effects on the education system in Nagaland.

Expressing solidarity, the Ao Students’ Conference stated, “The Ao Students’ Conference (AKM) stands in full support of the RMSA Teachers Association and urges the government to prioritize this issue and

implement the court’s directives immediately. It should not come to a point where teachers are forced to take to the streets.”

Highlighting the role of teachers in improving Government High School exam results, AKM noted that progress in recent years was largely due to their dedication and hard work. However, it expressed dismay that many teachers have not received their salaries since March 2025.

“Supporting teachers is the same as supporting students, and investing in them is investing in the future of our state,” the statement concluded.
