District Hospital Kiphire celebrated it’s 1st Mungmung festival at it’s conference hall.

Briefing on the significance of the occasion, Tsingseli Sangtam said that Mungmung festival is an important festival celebrated by the Sangtam Naga tribe in Nagaland, usually in the first week of September.

The festival, whose name means “Togetherness Forever,” is a time for thanksgiving, unity, purification, and cultural preservation, marked by religious rituals, feasting, singing, dancing, and traditional games to pray for a bountiful harvest and good health.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr C Wathsitho Nyuthe, Medical Superintendent of District Hospital Kohima (DHK), encouraged the gathering to embrace the richness of Naga cultural traditions.

Admitting that Nagas may appear similar in outward features and food habits, Nyuthe underlined that each tribe has its own unique and abundant cultural identity. “The Mungmung festival is a major celebration through which we share joy and happiness with our dear ones,” he said.
