The Mopungchuket Community Tourism Society (MCTS) organized a workshop on ‘Tourism Entrepreneurship’ at Mopungchuket village with the aim of promoting socioeconomic growth and strengthening the tourism sector.

The workshop, held at the Tourism Multiutility Hall, Longrangtenem Park, featured corporate lecturer from Kolkata, Rajib Pal, as the resource person, and Lobosang Jamir, Additional Chief Engineer (Power) as patron.

Participants included homestay owners, guides, aspiring tourism entrepreneurs, MCTS members, and elders of the village council. They were trained on various aspects of entrepreneurship such as goal setting, decision-making, risk-taking, addressing challenges, tourist retention, and long-term planning.

A session on Customer Relationship Management (CRM) was also held, highlighting its role in improving brand reputation and visitor satisfaction.

Speaking at the workshop, Pal emphasized the importance of aligning the vision of the community with the “mission” of tourists. He noted that Mopungchuket holds vast potential for tourism entrepreneurship and encouraged the villagers to evolve with time, identify weaknesses, and build on the recognition the village received when it was declared a ‘rural tourism village’ by the Government of Nagaland in 2007.

The patron, Jamir, in his keynote address, called upon the participants to “unlearn and relearn” and to adopt professionalism in managing tourism enterprises. He stressed the importance of work culture, accountability, and managerial skills, adding that complacency results in poor governance and weak systems. He also urged the community to view tourism as a professional, profit-making venture and to create an ecosystem that would sustain entrepreneurship.

The workshop was conducted in an interactive format with group activities and brainstorming sessions.

MCTS, established by the community in 2001, is commemorating its 25th year by undertaking a series of tourism development initiatives, with several more projects planned for implementation in the coming months to further strengthen the tourism profile of Mopungchuket.
