The Sendenyu Youth Organisation (SYO) has expressed deep anguish and condemnation over a road incident that took place on September 19 around 9:00 AM along Secretariat Road, Kohima.
According to the SYO press statement on September 21, a Maruti 800 (Reg. No. AS-01-AF-0616), driven by Samuel Kemp allegedly under the influence of alcohol, rammed into a two-wheeler, leaving a woman rider critically injured.
The organisation conveyed its sympathy and prayers to the victim and her family, stating solidarity with them in this time of distress.
The SYO termed driving under the influence of alcohol a criminal act that endangers lives and said it cannot be tolerated under any circumstances. It stressed that the law must take immediate action to ensure justice for the victim, accountability of the offender, and deterrence against future occurrences.

Reiterating that public roads are not private playgrounds, the SYO warned that those who recklessly violate safety norms should face strict legal consequences. It further stated that road safety is a collective responsibility and individuals indulging in rash or drunken driving directly threaten the lives of commuters.
The organisation urged the authorities to handle the matter with seriousness and urgency.
