“This oppositionless government is now operating with an alarming sense of impunity. It has cast the rule book into the dustbin, replacing it with a culture of manipulation and favouritism that rewards political patronage over proven competence,” stated the Rising Peoples Party (RPP) in a press release issued on October 4, raising concern against the controversial move to induct non-cadre officers into the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) in Nagaland.

The party criticized the NDPP-BJP coalition government against its “persistent and brazen disregard for the foundational principles of meritocracy and fair play in public service”.  It further considered the controversial move as a “calculated and treacherous subversion of our governance architecture”.

“Time and again, the Government Service Associations—CANSSEA, FONSESA, NSSA, NIDA, and NF&ASA—have voiced their resentment, only to be met with an arrogant and dismissive “damn care” attitude from the ruling PDA government,” asserted the RPP.

The party also reminded that It had previously appealed to the coalition’s conscience to spare the prestigious IAS from such backdoor entries. “Our pleas, like those of the service associations, have been ignored. This opposition less Government is now offering a cascade of problems and misfortunes: the demoralization of our dedicated civil servants and the devaluation of our administrative fabric,” the RPP contended.

Demanding immediate transparency, the party stated that the name of the non-NCS officer shortlisted for the induction, the process of their original entry into government service—circumventing the NPSC—and the identity of their political patrons must be revealed in the public domain.

“The people of Nagaland have a right to know the architects of this decay,” stated the RPP.

It also extended its solidarity with CANSSEA, FONSESA, NSSA, NIDA, and NF&ASA in their fight for integrity, and further called upon every citizen -who believes in justice and good governance- to reject what it termed as the ‘manipulative regime’.

“Together, we shall restore a merit-based system, free from corrupt practices, and return power to the people, where it rightfully belongs,” claimed the RPP.
