The Tongdentsuyong Yarisem Telok (TYT) on October 16 launched the “Tongdentsuyong Entrepreneurs Sales Day” at the Tongdentsuyong Community Hall premises, an initiative aimed at empowering skilled local entrepreneurs.

The programme, initiated under the leadership of Imkongsanen, Councillor, Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC), seeks to provide a platform for emerging entrepreneurs to showcase and market their locally made products such as arts, handicrafts, baked goods, customized apparel, and other creative works.

In his address, Imkongsanen highlighted that Tongdentsuyong Ward is home to many talented individuals whose products are already attracting customers from outside the ward. Recognizing this potential, he said the TYT, consisting of nine members, deliberated on how to support and promote local talents and skills. After several discussions, they decided to launch a series of initiatives, beginning with the Sales Day.

He stated, “If we look around, we have many individuals with remarkable talents and skills. After recognizing them, our TYT team decided to find ways to assist and encourage them. The first step is organizing this Sales Day, which we hope to continue as a regular event—possibly on a monthly or weekly basis.” He explained that such a platform not only helps improve the livelihoods of local entrepreneurs but also motivates others to engage in productive activities.

Imkongsanen further shared that the Sales Day aims to include not only entrepreneurs and artisans but also residents who engage in gardening or small-scale farming. “Those who grow vegetables or have kitchen gardens can sell their produce here and earn some extra income. This is an opportunity for everyone to sustain themselves and do something meaningful,” he said.

He added that setting up a permanent shop may not be feasible for many, but a flexible market like the Sales Day allows individuals to remain active and productive without heavy commitments. “When you earn from your own work, you feel encouraged to do more,” he remarked.

Expressing gratitude to everyone who contributed to what he described as a “baby step” initiative, Imkongsanen encouraged all interested individuals from the ward to approach the committee members without hesitation. “Whatever you can make or do with your skills and talents—showcase it. This can help generate income and uplift your family’s livelihood,” he said, while urging consistency and dedication to ensure the initiative’s success.

He emphasized that Tongdentsuyong Ward is advantageously located along the highway, which adds to its potential for growth. He also informed that the MMC had granted the permit for the Sales Day free of cost and assured that necessary arrangements would be made for its continuation. “If we are consistent, this small beginning can grow into something significant. Let our success story inspire others,” he expressed with optimism.

He concluded by urging the community to bring in new ideas and concepts to make the initiative vibrant and sustainable, assuring that both he and the committee would continue to support such efforts.

Earlier, Imtichizung, Chairman of Tongdentsuyong Ward, delivered a word of encouragement, while Monglir, Associate Pastor of MTBA, invoked God’s blessings for the success of the initiative.
