The first semi-final match of the 27th Mokokchung District Football Association (MDFA) Trophy 2025 saw Doyang Strikers Mokokchung winning over Super Seniors FC to enter the finals of this edition.
Right from the kickoff, Doyang Strikers dominated possession, keeping the ball deep in the opponent’s half and creating multiple scoring chances. Their relentless pressure paid off when Horam (Jersey No. 10) opened the account in the 34th minute. Just four minutes later, Yhoto Lohe (No. 9) doubled the lead with a well-placed finish, giving Doyang Strikers a comfortable 2-0 advantage before halftime.
The second half continued with Doyang maintaining their attacking rhythm. Yhoto Lohe added his second goal of the match in the 57th minute, followed quickly by another strike from Gamchui (No. 15) in the 58th minute to seal the game.
Despite efforts from Super Seniors FC, comprising mostly players in their 30s and 35-plus range—their experience couldn’t outmatch the younger and faster Strikers. Their goalkeeper, however, earned applause for a series of impressive saves that prevented a wider margin.
With this win, Doyang Strikers Mokokchung advanced to the grand finale of the 27th MDFA Trophy 2025. The second semi-final will feature Telongjem FC taking on Chargers FC for the remaining spot in the final.
Special Guest Y Vikheho Swu, Managing Director of Okusa Toyota, addressed the gathering during the first semi-final match of the MDFA Trophy 2025. He lauded Mokokchung district for its hardworking, enterprising, and sincere people, noting that among all his interactions across the state, the people of Mokokchung are known for their strong work ethics — a positive trait he has personally observed and admired in the district.
He observed that Mokokchung has a vibrant culture of sports and music, emphasizing that such pursuits are vital not only for personal growth but also for building a healthier society. Engaging in sports, he said, keeps young people away from destructive habits and helps channel their energy positively.
“Sports can transform lives—it teaches discipline, teamwork, perseverance, and promotes fitness, good habits, and social well-being,” he stated, adding that many can also build a career through sports.
Commending the State Government under the leadership of the Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio for promoting sports, he acknowledged the initiatives such as the Dr T Ao Trophy and the launch of the Nagaland Super League (NSL), noting that the upcoming Dr T Ao Tournament would further boost the sporting spirit among the Naga youth.

Highlighting Mokokchung’s proud sporting legacy, Swu recalled the remarkable achievements of Olympian Dr T Ao, whose success despite limited opportunities continues to inspire generations. He expressed confidence that Mokokchung can produce many more talents like Dr T Ao and appreciated the MDFA for organizing tournaments that provide a platform for young footballers to showcase their abilities.
Sharing about his journey, he mentioned that he started Okusa Toyota in 2008 with determination and limited resources. He informed that while the company currently operates a small outlet, plans are underway to establish a service centre in Mokokchung if the response from car buyers increases.
He said he also feels that the district should grow and that it should not always be just Kohima and Dimapur developing. “I see the potential for this town to grow because, as I said, you are an enterprising and hardworking people,” he remarked.
He further shared that Toyota has begun supporting music and arts in Nagaland, and its parent company is planning to expand initiatives in sports and music across the Northeast region, with collaborations in the pipeline.
Addressing the players, Swu reminded them that success comes only through hard work, dedication, and consistency. “There is no shortcut to success. One small setback should not make you give up. Talent alone is not enough—only commitment and discipline will take you forward,” he concluded.
