Following reports of a bakery in Pfutsero selling products labeling advanced manufacturing date, the Pfutsero Town Business Association (PTBA) immediately conducted an independent enquiry with the United Bakery dealer based in Pfutsero and the proprietor of United Bakery, Kohima.
After verification, the PTBA found that no dealer from Pfutsero had ever requested or instructed United Bakery to alter or change any manufacturing date lebels on the bakery goods.
The proprietor of the United Bakery also admitted to making a false and misleading statement in the media, wrongfully associating the matter with Pfutsero. It was also verified that the consignment mentioned in the report (dated 29/10/2025) was actually meant for another district, and no such products were dispatched to Pfutsero.
After the verification, the PTBA filed an FIR at Pfutsero Police Station against the proprietor of United Bakery, Kohima for giving false information and defaming the reputation of the Pfutsero business community.
The Association has also requested the police and the concerned authorities to take necessary action and carry out a full investigation into the matter. It has further been reported that in a few instances, there have been cases of incorrect labelling from the bakery manufacturing unit.
The PTBA in its statement highlighted that the Association has also received complaints from certain local traders and consumers that some bakery products from other companies in circulation were found to be infected with fungus even before their “Best Before” dates, suspected to be due to the repacking of old stocks with new labels.

The PTBA also strongly warned all bakery manufacturers, suppliers, and distributors to ensure that accurate labelling and date markings are maintained in full compliance with food safety standards. Any bakery found guilty of mislabelling, repacking, or selling expired or unsafe goods would face strict action in coordination with the concerned administration, police, and the Food Safety Department, it said.
The Association also assured the public that it remains fully committed to upholding consumer safety, protecting the integrity of local traders, and ensuring that fair and transparent business practices continue to prevail in Pfutsero Town.
The Association also requested the concerned Food Safety Department to look into this case and take the necessary measures. It further added that no new United Bakery products would be allowed to be dispatched in Pfutsero Town with immediate effect until the matter is fully resolved.
