The Dimapur Urban Council Chairmen Federation (DUCCF) has expressed deep concern over the recent road accident near DDSC Stadium, which it attributed to a large pothole left unattended along the National Highway stretch under the Dimapur division of the National Highway Department.

In a statement, the DUCCF said that despite repeated appeals from the public and various civil organizations, the concerned department has failed to address the deteriorating road condition, posing serious danger to commuters on a daily basis. The incident, it stated, serves as a grim reminder of gross negligence and non-adherence to safety norms by the responsible authorities.

With the festive season approaching, the Federation noted that heavy vehicular movement and increased public gatherings are expected, and therefore urgent repair and maintenance works must be undertaken to prevent further accidents and potential loss of life.

The DUCCF strongly urged the National Highway Department, Dimapur Division, to take swift and concrete action to repair and restore the damaged portion of the road. It warned that failure to act within a reasonable timeframe would compel the Federation to file an FIR against the concerned department and officials for dereliction of duty and public endangerment under relevant legal provisions.

Reiterating that public safety is non-negotiable, the Federation asserted that accountability must be upheld in all public works and that repairing such potholes should be treated as a matter of immediate priority.

Meanwhile, the DUCCF also acknowledged the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) Councillor for addressing developments related to pedestrian safety. It further appealed to the DMC to make the parking charge uniform at ₹20 for two hours across all areas in Dimapur town, instead of varying location-based rates.
