The 9th Capt. N. Kenguruse, MVC Memorial Football Tournament played at Indira Gandhi Stadium on October 39, in the first march Maverick FC showcased complete authority on the pitch as they secured a 4–0 win over A. Yhome FC in a one-sided contest of the ongoing tournament. From the early minutes, Maverick FC dictated the rhythm with their structured build-up and dominant control in midfield, maintaining 67% possession throughout the match.

Their breakthrough arrived In the 31st minute, when Dongehanglen calmly slotted home after finding space behind the defence. The goal lifted Maverick’s momentum further, as they continued to threaten with quick switches and direct runs into the final third. A. Yhome FC looked to respond through counterattacks, but repeated inaccuracies in the final pass and well-organized defending from Maverick FC limited their chances.

Despite managing four shots on target, they failed to break through a disciplined backline. The second half saw Maverick FC increase the pressure, and Dongehanglen doubled his tally in the 64th minute, finishing off another well-orchestrated team move. As A. Yhome FC committed more bodies forward in search of a comeback, they left gaps exposed — which proved costly in stoppage time.

Super-sub Pangteih converted a late chance in 80+1’, followed quickly by Ratobe two minutes later (80+3’), sealing a commanding and fully deserved victory. Maverick FC’s combination of patience in possession, defensive organization and clinical finishing underlines their credentials as strong contenders in this edition of the tournament.

Langsa Hill FC strike late to defeat Adroit Boys Sechü Zubza FC and enter semi-finals

On  the second match of the day,  in a fiercely contested knockout clash, Langsa Hill FC showcased superior control and tactical patience to overcome an early setback and register a 2–1 victory over Adroit Boys Sechü Zubza FC, sealing their place in the semifinals. Adroit Boys made their intentions clear right from kickoff, stunning Langsa Hill FC with a brilliantly executed move in just the 2nd minute, as Nisede capitalized on a defensive misjudgment to fire home the opener. The early goal allowed Adroit Boys to sit deeper and look for opportunities on the counter, while their defense held firm against the initial waves of pressure.

However, Langsa Hill FC gradually began to dominate possession — finishing the match with 56% ball control— and built sustained pressure through strong wing play and well-coordinated attacking rotations. The breakthrough came at a crucial time from a 44th-minute set piece, Berithung rose highest to head home the equalizer, a moment that not only restored balance on the scoreboard but also shifted the psychological edge squarely in Langsa Hill’s favor.

The second half further tilted toward Langsa Hill FC, who created more scoring opportunities with eight shots on target and forced multiple defensive scrambles from Adroit Boys. Yet, despite their pressure, resilience from the Sechü Zubza side —alongside some wastefulness in front of goal — kept the match hanging in the balance. Just when extra time seemed inevitable, Langsa Hill FC’s consistent threat from dead-ball situations proved decisive once again. In the 91st minute, Guqhe powered another well-delivered set piece, sealing a dramatic turnaround and igniting wild celebrations among the Langsa Hill camp. Adroit Boys, who registered four shots on target and tried to fight back late on, simply ran out of time to respond.

Langsa Hill FC’s ability to stay composed after the early blow, combined with their lethal accuracy from set pieces, ultimately defined the encounter and rightfully earned them a place in the semifinal lineup.
