CWA to organize 3rd Senior & 2nd U-15 Open Naga Traditional Wresting Championship

The Chakhesang Wrestling Association (CWA) is organising its 3rd Senior & 2nd U-15 Open Naga Traditional Wrestling Championship 2025 under the aegis of the Nagaland Wrestling Association (NWA) on November 7 at Pfutsero Sports Complex in Phek district.

Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, C L John will graced the event as special guest and Veyielo Doulo , Director Tourism Government of Nagaland will be the guest of honour .

The champion under senior category will be awarded with a cash prize of Rs. 2 lakh. The 2nd position will get Rs.1.20 lakh while the 3rd & 4th position will be awarded with Rs.70,000 and Rs.50,000 respectively. Losing quarter finalists will receive Rs.10,000 each.

For U-15 boys category, the first and second position will receive a cash award of Rs. 15,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively. The 3rd and 4th position holders will get Rs.7000  and Rs.5000 respectively.

Losing quarter finalists will receive Rs.2000 each.

The prize money for champion and second position under senior category is sponsored by Chakhesang Catholic Association.

The third position is sponsored  under senior category is sponsored by Er Khrotso John Koza, SE, Directorate of Water Resource, 4th position by Medovilie Ladu, Additional Director, Agriculture, 3 quarter finalists by Er R Shurhotho Nyusou, JE PWD (Housing) Division No-1 Kohima and other 1 quarter finalist by Liasou Emy Nukhu, Account and Programme Assistant.

The prize money for U- 15 category is sponsored by CWA.

The Chief Referee would be Kezhalelie Keretsii. NWRB referees would be Hüvesü Puro, Zehoto Kikhi, Zacüta Puro, Lhüvenü Phesao, Keneingulie Nagi, Kope Kronu, Khrietuolie Üsou and Sürhoneyi Soho.

The jury board comprises of Chisazo Dawhuo Convernor , Hükhonieye Soho Member and Assistant Technical Secretary,CWA, Member .

The event will be managed by Chakhesang Catholic Association.

CWA president Vezohü Rüho addressing the media on November 2 mentioned that the championship is one of the most celebrated traditional sports in Nagaland. He added that this year’s event will be competitive.

Rekha Rose Dukru, Convenor of the management committee informed that venue for the upcoming wrestling championship would be strictly tobacco-free, with CCTV cameras installed to ensure a safe environment for all attendees. To reduce plastic waste, spectators are encouraged to bring their own refillable water bottles, which can be refilled at designated points.

A team of volunteers would be on hand to manage parking and oversee the grounds, ensuring a seamless experience for everyone throughout the event.

A total of 50 wrestlers have so far registered, 40 from CWA, 9 from the Angami Wrestling Association, and 1 each from the Ao and Lotha Associations.

Some of the prominent wrestlers participating this year includes Kezhavizo Thevo, Huluyi D Vadeo, Venuzo Dawhuo, Vemele Thingo, Rukukhoto Khüsoh, Venü Vadeo, Sasüyi Nyekha, Küvehü Puro, Thüputha Hesüh, Atuo Tevo, Mezivil Kiso, Keneiselie Khawakhrie, Mhaneikholie Kuotsu, Sentilong Imchen, and Lichumthung C. Kikon.

November 3 would be the last date for registration for senior wrestlers from outside, however, U-15 registration remains open until the day of the event. Only 32 U-15 wrestlers would be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

Tickets for the highly-anticipated Naga Traditional Wrestling Championship would range from Rs. 150 to Rs.5,000.
