G Rio Memorial Volleyball Trophy: Zing-Zing Kezo-Town & MADFA Dimapur emerge Champions in men’s and women’s categories respectively

The G Rio Memorial Volleyball Trophy (12th Kohima Open Tournament) organised by Kohima District Volleyball Association ( KDVA) concluded on November 20 at Kohima Local Ground (Khuochiezie) with Zing-Zing Kezo-Town (Men) & MADFA Dimapur (Women) emerging as champions.

Zing-Zing Kezo-Town emerged as the Men’s Champion defeating MH-10 at the finales while in Women’s category, MADFA Dimapur won the finale against Teen Star Manipur.

C Manpon Konyak, MLA of 47 A/C Aboi who was the special guest at the closing ceremony of the G Rio Memorial Volleyball Trophy, 12th Kohima Open Tournament highlighted the importance of cultural identity, unity, and responsibility among the Naga people, while extending respect and gratitude to the Chief Minister, Dr Rio’s family, whose contributions to Nagaland’s political and social landscape were acknowledged.

Paying tribute to Chief Minister, Dr Neiphiu Rio and MLA and Advisor for Urban Development & Municipal Affairs, Zhaleo Rio, lAS (Retd), the MLA noted that their leadership and legacy have “kept the Nagas awake despite all odds,” inspiring generations across the state.

Commending the efforts of the organising team and the Volleyball Association, Konyak observed that although volleyball may not be a globally dominant sport, it remains significant in its ability to unite minds, hearts and communities.

“Giving gratitude to the organising team alone is not enough,” he said, applauding the participation of teams from various parts of the region. He congratulated all athletes for their commitment and sportsmanship, calling the event “a moment of pride and a celebration of collective achievement”

The MLA also reflected on Nagaland’s evolving societal structure, describing the current period as a “transitional era.” He expressed concern that Nagas in Nagaland have drifted from the foundations of their cultural identity, even as Nagas worldwide remain united under a shared heritage.

“We have drawn the line remarkably far away from protecting our identity,” he said, urging communities to restore unity and cultural consciousness.

The MLA also emphasized the need to protect culture, embrace responsibility, and contribute creative ideas for the common good.

“We must pave the way for the younger generation,” he said. “Let us shoulder our responsibilities, craft better ideas, and work together for a shared cause.”

Konyak concluded by reminding the audience that cultural events and sporting gatherings are not merely celebrations but opportunities to rediscover and strengthen the identity and unity of the Naga people.

The tournament concluded with the prize distribution ceremony, acknowledging champions, runners-up, and standout performers who impressed with their skills throughout the event.

Earlier, during the closing ceremony the Comperes were Vizosienuo Shüya and Ketholezo Keyho . Seyiekuolie Bio performed a special number at the event. Vote of thanks was delivered by Rükravolie Rülho, Co-convenor, Organising Committee.

The men champions Zing-zing Kezo Town won cash prize of Rs. 1.5 lakh, and the runners up team MH -10 received cash prize of Rs. 80,000.

The women champions MADFA received a cash prize of Ra. 80,000 and the runners up Teen Star received prize money of Rs. 50,000.

Two semi-finalist teams, Titans Club and Serenity Spikers also received Rs. 15,000 each and in the men category the two finalist teams, Kazi Najrul Assam and Kiruphema Youth Organization received Rs. 25,000 each.

Women category

Best spiker- Sangita Das (MADFA)

Best setter- Lhingpichoi (Teen Star team)
