Three major community organisations of Wokha Village—Wokha Village Youth Organization (WVYO), Wokha Village Students’ Union (WVSU) and Wokha Village Eloe Ekhung (WVEE)—on November 26 convened a joint meeting at the Community Hall, Wokha Village, in response to an alleged physical assault on a resident, Franky Kikon (popularly known as YFK). The incident reportedly occurred on November 25 around 6:30–7:00 p.m. and involved one Zahir Ansari, allegedly a non-registered member of Muslim community, Wokha and his wife Abeni Ansari.
After thorough deliberation, the house unanimously adopted a set of resolutions citing concerns over public safety, community welfare and safeguarding of Wokha Village ancestral land.
According to the resolution, Zahir Ansari has been barred from conducting business activities or residing within Wokha District, with cancellation of his trade licence effective from November 29, 12 noon, until further notice.
Citizens, including landlords, property owners and business dealers of any kind within Wokha district, have been instructed not to rent out house, room, shop, stall or space to the said individual (Zahir Ansari) or engage in any form of partnership or business dealings with him. Any individual who violates this directive would be held solely accountable for any future eventualities arising thereafter, the resolution stated.
The house also expressed strong concern over what the house described as increasing trends of local girls—minors and adult women—being employed by non-local businessmen within Wokha village ancestral land and entering into marriages that later lead to community tensions. It stated that several social problems have emerged from such relationships, with instances reported where non-locals use their marital ties to evade accountability during disputes.
The resolution also referenced similar patterns in other districts of Nagaland that it claimed have escalated to serious outcomes, including loss of local lives.
The house cautioned all citizens to remain vigilant and exercise wisdom concerning the employment of local girls by non-locals, marriage alliances involving non-locals and the increasing influences of non-locals within Wokha, while describing the present incident as “an eye-opener” for all residents of Wokha district and the wider Naga community.
The Muslim community in Wokha was specifically advised to exercise vigilance and caution over the conduct and activities of its members to ensure that such provocative, harmful, or unlawful behaviour does not recur, and to cooperate fully in preventing any unwanted situations that may disturb the peace and harmony of Wokha district.
The WVYO, WVSU, and WVEE urged all citizens of Wokha district to extend full cooperation in upholding peace, discipline, and security, support the enforcement of these resolutions, and help maintain a harmonious and conducive environment for our future generations within our district.
The organizations stated that the resolutions, issued jointly by WVYO, WVSU, and WVEE, and with the endorsement of WVC, WVEF, WVGEU and all the seven respective Khel Youth Organizations of Wokha village, would remain in force until further order
