In a high-stakes semi-final clash at the Chümoukedima Sports Complex on Monday, Uttar Pradesh (UP) delivered a composed strike to defeat a resilient Assam side 3–0, booking their place in the grand finale of the Dr. Talimeren Ao Junior Girls’ National Football Championship 2025-26 scheduled to be held on December 11.

The opening minutes of the crucial semi-final match saw both teams try to establish rhythm, with Assam enjoying early possession and attempting to press high. However, it was Uttar Pradesh’s tactical organisation that quickly became evident. Their compact midfield structure allowed them to transition smoothly from defence to attack.

UP’s breakthrough came in the 27th minute, when Anjali Yadav found space inside the

attacking third. Latching onto a well-threaded pass, she displayed sublime control before

placing a composed finish past the Assam goalkeeper. The opener not only lifted UP’s confidence but also forced Assam to chase the game.

Assam, despite holding 54% possession, struggled to convert their attacking build-up into real threats, thanks to the disciplined backline of Uttar Pradesh.

A defensive lapse from Assam in the 39th minute allowed Divya to pounce with precision. Her strike, driven low and firm, doubled the advantage and gave Uttar Pradesh a comfortable lead heading into the break.

Assam came out with renewed intent in the second half, pushing aggressively through the flanks and securing a series of six corners in total. Despite their set-piece advantage, they were constantly denied by UP’s alert goalkeeping and structured defensive unit.

The match-defining moment arrived in the 69th minute, courtesy of Anjali Yadav once again who struck her brace. Her second goal effectively extinguished Assam’s hopes of a comeback while highlighting her standout form in the championship.

As the lights shifted toward the grand finale, the girls from UP stand on the brink of national glory—90 minutes away from claiming the prestigious Dr. T. Ao Junior Girls’ Championship title.

Monday’s victory propels Uttar Pradesh into the final, where they will face Team Maharashtra on December 11, a fixture already generating excitement, given Maharashtra’s consistent performances and Uttar Pradesh’s rising momentum.

Commissioner of Police Dimapur Aotula T. Imchen graced the occasion as the Match Patron.
