4th National Lok Adalat in Nagaland settles 204 cases, over ₹2.96 Cr recovered

The 4th National Lok Adalat (NLA) held across Nagaland on Saturday achieved significant success, with 204 cases amicably settled at district headquarters statewide, resulting in a total settlement amount of Rs 2,96,55,316.

Organized under the aegis of the Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA), the cases were taken up and settled by the District Legal Services Authorities (DLSAs) in all the districts. This is the final quarter of NLAs held nationally across the country for the year 2025.

Altogether, 1,342 matters were taken up during the Adalat, covering pre-litigation and pending cases, primarily related to bank recovery, MACT cases, BSNL dues, and other civil disputes, underscoring the growing role of Lok Adalats in providing speedy, cost-effective, and consensual justice.

Kohima District Legal Services Authority conducted 4th Quarterly National Lok Adalat at District Court, Kohima on December 13 with a short programme chaired by Asenla Longkumer Panel Lawyer KDLSA.

Mezivolu T Therieh, Principal District and Sessions Judge and Chairperson Kohima DLSA gave a brief insight on what is Lok Adalat and how it functions. She also spoke on how Lok Adalat settles cases with common sense, compassion and consensus unlike Court cases.

Cases taken up for bank recovery was 760, cases taken up for BSNL were 300 while 2 cases were taken up on money suit. Total number of cases taken up was 1062 while 28 cases in total were disposed off with a settlement amount of Rs 17, 13,998.

Wokha District Legal Services Authority (WDLSA) conducted 4th National Lok Adalat at District Court Complex Wokha. Seyielenuo Mezhu, District & Sessions Judge /Chairperson WDLSA was the presiding officer. Forty three Pre-Litigation BSNL -Telephone Recovery bill and 3 Pending Trial Bank recoveries /Money suits were taken up, and 41 pre-litigation cases were disposed off. The total settlement amount is Rs 44330 only.

Peren District Legal Services Authority conducted 4th Quarterly National Lok Adalat at SBI Tening Branch, with Atoka Achumi, Secretary PDLSA as Presiding Officer. A total of 90 pre- litigation cases were taken up out of which 13 Bank Loan cases were disposed with a settlement amount of Rs. 11, 31,500.

Mon District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Mon successfully organised the 4th Quarterly National Lok Adalat at the District Court Complex, Mon, presided over by Nokshei Kano, District & Sessions Judge-cum-Chairman, District Legal Services Authority, Mon and Wokono Yhoshii, Chief Judicial Magistrate-cum-Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Mon.

The conciliators were Advocate Angun Konyak, Retainer Lawyer, Mon DLSA; Advocate Mannon, Chief LADC, Mon; Advocate Topha, Panel Lawyer, Mon DLSA; and Advocate Moba, Chief LADC, Mon. A total of 10 bank recovery cases were taken up during the Lok Adalat, out of which four cases were amicably settled and disposed. An amount of Rs 30, 26,931 only was settled in total.

Tuensang District Legal Services Authority under the aegis of National Legal Services Authority conducted it’s 4th Quarterly National Lok Adalat at District Court Complex, Tuensang Nagaland. The National Lok Adalat was presided by Principal District and Sessions Judge cum Chairman Tuensang, DLSA Somet Chumden Chang, NJS, and Retainer Lawyer, TDLSA, PHerola, and Antimangyang ,Chief LADC as the conciliators. All together 13 bank recovery cases were taken up and 10 bank cases were disposed of with a settlement amount of Rs.2, 166,145.

Kiphire District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) conducted its 4th Lok Adalat at the District Court Complex, Kiphire. Holika Sukhalu, Secretary, Kiphire DLSA, was the Presiding Officer. A total of six cases were taken up, out of which two pre-litigation bank loan cases were disposed of through amicable settlement, involving a total settlement amount of Rs 4, 91,400.

Zunheboto DLSA conducted 4th Quarter National Lok Adalat at District Court Complex Judicial Magistrate First Class cum Secretary ZDLSA, where Cheliam Khiamniungan, NJS was the presiding officer. Easter H Yepthomi and Vilibo K Zhimo were the conciliators. All together 5 pre-litigation bank recovery cases were taken up and four were disposed of with the total settlement amount of Rs.7, 52,263.

Phek DLSA conducted the 4th Quarterly National Lok Adalat held at the District court complex. Duvelu Vero, District & Session Judge cum Chairperson Phek DLSA was the Presiding officer. Sekhotso Rokha Retainer Lawyer, Vethothi Vero Chief LADC and Thukutalu Chizo Panel Lawyer were the conciliators. A total of 17 cases of Bank Recovery loan were taken up and disposed off with a settlement amount of Rs. 23, 15,956.

Longleng District Legal Services Authority held its 4th quarterly National Lok Adalat at District court with the SBI Longleng. Total four cases of bank loan recovery were taken up and disposed off with the settlement amount of Rs 10, 04,471. Secretary LDLSA Kumdilong Kessen (NJS) presiding officer briefed the gathering about Lok Adalat. Retainer Lawyer K Bongyei Phom and Panel Lawyer L Yingloi Phom were the conciliators. PLV Yingli also participated.

Dimapur District Legal services Authority [DLSA] conducted 4th National Lok Adalat at District Court Complex, Dimapur. The whole proceeding was chaired by Longshithung Ezung NJS and Atoka Achumi NJS as presiding officer’s, during the proceedings, 77 cases were taken up and 69 were disposed off amounting to Rs. 1, 08, 88, 353 only.

Mokokchung District Legal Services Authority (MDLSA) successfully organized the 4th Quarterly National Lok Adalat at the District Court Complex, presided over by Julian Sitlhou, Chief Judicial Magistrate cum Secretary, MDLSA. Serving as conciliators were Retainer Lawyer, Watitemjen, Molodongba and Chubarenla, Panel Lawyer, MDLSA.

A total of four bank recovery cases were taken up during the session, and all four were amicably disposed of.The total settlement amount reached Rs. 5, 20,000.
