Nagaland Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla has called upon citizens to reaffirm their commitment to the constitutional ideals of justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity that form the foundation of the nation’s democracy.
In his 77th Republic Day message, the Governor extended warm greetings to the people of Nagaland and recalled the historic moment of January 26, 1950, when India adopted its Constitution and embarked on a journey as the world’s largest and most vibrant democracy. He said, “Republic Day is not merely a celebration of our past; it is a reaffirmation of our collective commitment to the ideals that define our Nation.”
Highlighting this year’s national themes — “Vande Mataram”, marking the 150th anniversary of India’s national song, and “Atmanirbhar Bharat”, symbolizing the resolve for a self-reliant, prosperous and technologically empowered nation — the Governor said these themes beautifully connect India’s glorious heritage with its bold aspirations for the future.
He said as India celebrates 150 years of “Vande Mataram”, the national song, “we reaffirm our love for the soil that nurtures us, the people who define us, and the Constitution that binds us together as one nation.” In Nagaland too, he said, the diverse tribes, cultures, and traditions reflect this same spirit of unity in diversity, which is the very essence of India.
He also said the theme of “Atmanirbhar Bharat” calls upon every India to transform patriotic emotion into purposeful action. “A self-reliant India is not one that stands alone, but one that stands strong — confident in its abilities, innovative in its approach, and compassionate in its growth. It envisions an India where prosperity is inclusive, opportunities are equitable, and development reaches the last mile,” he stated.
As India moves towards its centenary of independence in 2047, the Governor underscored the importance of green growth, renewable energy, climate action, and sustainable development, adding that Nagaland, with its rich biodiversity and pristine environment, has a crucial role in balancing progress with ecological preservation.
He said Digital India is transforming governance, education, healthcare, and entrepreneurship. Technology is bridging distances, empowering citizens, and enabling transparent and efficient service delivery. In Nagaland, he said, digital connectivity is opening new pathways for youth, artisans, farmers, and entrepreneurs, enabling them to integrate with national and global markets.
Stating that women’s power, Nari Shakti lies at the heart of India’s growth story, the Governor highlighted that from science and defence to entrepreneurship and governance, Indian women are redefining leadership and excellence.

“In Nagaland, our women have long been custodians of culture, economy, and social harmony. As we strengthen education, skill development, and opportunities for women, we strengthen the nation itself,” he stated.
On rural development, Bhalla stated that a prosperous India must rise from prosperous villages. He said infrastructure development, agricultural reforms, digital services, and entrepreneurship in rural areas are unlocking new opportunities and improving the quality of life for millions. In Nagaland, empowering rural communities with skills, markets, and modern infrastructure remains a key priority, he added.
He further said that the future of India rests in the hands of the youths who are innovative, energetic and aspirational. They are not only job seekers, but job creator, problem solvers and nation builders, he added.
Reflecting on the Constitution as a living document, the Governor said it guarantees not only rights but also responsibilities — to uphold unity, dignity, harmony, and mutual respect. He noted that Nagaland’s unique traditions, customary laws and cultural heritage complement the constitutional framework of India, strengthening India’s federal democracy.
The Governor called upon the people to renew their pledge to work together in harmony, respect diversity, serve the nation with sincerity and place collective good above narrow interests. He paid tribute to the freedom fighters and architects of the Constitution, whose sacrifices laid the foundation of a strong and united India.
“Let us reaffirm our pledge to build an India that is prosperous yet compassionate, powerful yet peaceful, modern yet rooted in timeless values,” he concluded.
