Lok Sabha Member of Parliament from Nagaland, S Supongmeren Jamir on Thursday strongly reiterated the urgent need for an early and honourable solution to the long-pending Naga Political Issue.
Speaking in the Lok Sabha, the MP, who also submitted a written statement under Rules 377 in the Parliament, reminded the Government of India of its commitments made to the Naga people.
He stated that the Government of India has already entered into two significant agreements with Naga Political Groups, the 2015 Framework Agreement with NSCN (I-M) and the 2017 Agreed Position with the 7 NNPGs.
These agreements, he said, were historic steps that raised great hope among the Naga people for a lasting political solution.
Jamir further recalled that in 2018, civil society organizations in Nagaland had taken a firm stand under the slogan “No Solution, No Election.” At that time, the BJP high command assured the people that the State General Elections would be an “Election for Solution.” However, despite such assurances, the final solution remains pending, he said.
He also pointed out that on October 31, 2019, the then Governor and Interlocutor, RN Ravi had announced that the Naga Peace talks had been concluded. Yet, before any settlement could be finalized, the Interlocutor was replaced, and the process did not move forward as expected, the MP pointed out.

Highlighting the seriousness and unity within the state, Jamir noted that the Nagaland Legislative Assembly had even formed an opposition-less government to act as facilitators in bringing about a Naga Political Solution.
Despite these efforts and the existence of two formal agreements, he lamented that more groups have emerged in Nagaland under the banner of the Naga political movement, reflecting growing frustration and the prolonged delay in resolving the issue.
He further emphasized that since the Government of India has already signed agreements with Naga National workers, it is well within its responsibility and authority to deliver an honourable, inclusive, and acceptable solution to the Naga people.
He appealed to the Prime Minister and the Home Minister to sincerely heed the collective voice of the Nagas, stating, “The Naga people are united in one voice — we want a solution. The time has come for the Government of India to translate its commitments and agreements into a final political settlement without further delay.”
