The 1st Round Table Talk on Artificial Intelligence (AI) was held at the Directorate of Science & Technology, Kohima on September 26.
Principal Secretary, Science & Technology, I. Himato Zhimomi in his opening remarks said, “There are two aspects in the AI platform, the user side and the maker side of the AI. The user needs to know how best we can use and utilize it in the private as well as in the government sector. We should bring out solutions to safeguard it, because this can be used for good or for worse,” said Zhimomi. He also suggested that AI can be used for better governance, therefore our people should be directed and suggest the public at large to provide concrete guidance in what AI sector can do now or in the next decade.
He also said that it is going to be very crucial for us to discuss on how AI is going to impact our society and how AI is going to be used by every single person both in the government and private sectors. He also challenged the young minds to put their minds together and bring everyone on board who are really interested in this platform. He added that this AI is going to bring a massive revolution which is going to impact each and every one of us.
NCS Ex-Officio Director & Joint Secretary, Science & Technology, Zeneikhono Vimero, in her welcome address mentioned that this 1st Round Table Talk on Artificial Intelligence (AI) under the aegis of the Nagaland Science Mission -2024 (NSM), was the brain child of our own Principal Secretary. She said that the NSM has a vision for future economic growth, for a prosperous society and is going to carry forward through various scientific and technological interventions which include ‘open up centres for AI’.

She mentioned that this is one of the main focus and said we are fortunate that this has positively allied with the India AI mission for the next 5 years. India is going to take a super leap in this area, she added. She also mentioned that India’s AI, is a very significant mission taking initiative in reviving AI mission infrastructure establishment for start-ups, academia and researchers, and also has the cabinet approval for more than 100 Cr.
Later in the technical session, resource person Prof. Samarendra Dandapat, Professor Dept. of Electronics and Electrical Engineer, Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati Assam, India spoke on the topic of “Emerging Al Tools in India”, ‘Applications of Al in Indian Context & Future Prospects’ by Dr. Anuja Pandey Programme, Director-PGCMIT Head India Case Research Centre-ICRC All India Management Association (AIMA) New Delhi. Resource Person Ajit Kumar Ranjan, IAS Deputy Secretary, Sixteenth Finance Commission Ministry of Finance, shared on “Experiences Sharing on Wokha Saathi: AI-Powered Chatbot: Case Study”. In the 2nd session, moderator Kekuneil Ltu/ Onongoto Soleho, a Round Table Discussion was held with the participants.
