Awareness programme on consumer rights, substance abuse and Child Helpline held in Noklak

An awareness programme covering various  topics on Consumer Rights, Child Marriage,  Substance Abuse and Child Helpline 1098 was conducted on April 22 at White Hall, Noklak organised by Department of Legal Metrology & Consumer Protection, District Child Protection Unit, Mission, Vatsalya in collaboration with Thang Students’ Union.

Herola, Panel Lawyer, Tuensang District Legal Service Authority in her address on the topic  ‘Consumer! Know your rights’ emphasized on the necessity and importance of knowing one’s rights as a Consumer. “It is the responsibility and rights of a Consumer to file complain if shop-owners or dealers are found malpracticing,” she stated. Further,  she highlighted the seven basic rights of a consumer and urged upon the gathering to be educated inorder to avoid being tricked or falling ill due to consumption of expiry goods.

Herola elaborated on consumer rights, the risks involved in negligence, and the importance of lodging complaints and seeking rightful compensation when wronged. She also emphasized the need to approach designated legal bodies and authorities for proper redressal.

Lashika K. Aye, Legal Cum Probation Officer, Noklak covered the topics on POCSO Act 2019, Child Trafficking & Substance Abuse and Child Marriage. He advised the students to avoid peer groups gathering that have negative influence involving substance usages that can jeopardize their future.

Emphasizing on the POCSO Act 2019,  Aye urged the young  students to inform any trusted and responsible adults if they face any kinds of harassments. Any adult or child can inform, he said, adding that the act protects children under 18 years of age. He called upon the church and parents to play an important role in educating and looking out for their children the healthy growth of their children.

Hatho P, Project Coordinator, CHL in his address informed the students of Child Helpline 1098 which is a network to provide support and help and offer hopes and protection to a distressed  child.
