The BJP Youth Wing, Wokha, conducted a cleanliness drive at Tsumang Lake on October 5, calling for improved maintenance, beautification and development of the site, described as the only ecological lake in Wokha town.

Speaking during the drive, BJP Youth Wing Wokha president Shanchothung A. Ezung said the lake has been adversely affected by indiscriminate dumping of waste, including plastic materials and animal carcasses. He urged the government to take up the issue during the District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) meeting and initiate measures for the beautification and development of the area.

Ezung also said that proper maintenance and development of the lake could help generate revenue and suggested the deployment of a designated guard to prevent littering and ensure regular upkeep of the site.

The cleanliness drive commenced at around 8 a.m. and was carried out by members of the BJP Youth Wing. Garbage trucks provided by the Wokha Town Council and a boat from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) were used during the operation.

Ezung said the BJP Youth Wing has also been involved in various community initiatives, including medical camps, seed distribution programmes, awareness campaigns and other cleanliness drives. He added that the organisation intends to make the Tsumang Lake cleanliness drive an annual activity.

The BJP Youth Wing expressed its gratitude to BJP State Youth President Khekato Awomi and National Executive Member of the National Youth Wing Arvind Damani for sponsoring the cleanliness drive. It also thanked the SDRF Wokha for providing life jackets and boats for the volunteers, and the Wokha Town Council for providing a garbage truck and extending its support.

The organisation further acknowledged Town Councillor James Tungoe for providing refreshments to the volunteers and Urban Crew Car Rentals for assisting with transportation.
