Mountain Gems Meluri (MGM), a food product brand was launched on December 11 at the first winter fest in Meluri.

Phek SP Dr. Pritpal Kaur IPS and ADC Meluri Elbert Ezung unveiled the “Mountain Gems Meluri” (MGM) stall showcasing handicrafts and processed food set up by local entrepreneurs, primarily consisting of talented youths. As part of her continuous efforts, Dr. Kaur initiated a livelihood training program for food products in November this year. This initiative, in collaboration with NTTC, targeted women SHGs and unemployed youth.

Within a month, the group successfully prepared and packaged the products. The product features a variety of pickles, including ginger, garlic, brinjal, meat, mix veg, chilli, meat, carrot, radish, soybean, and more, along with gooseberry/ginger candies and other food stuffs. During the launch, the SP said that the brand aims to empower those living at the border area.

Encouraging the youth, she advocated for hard work over drugs/substance abuse, urged the development of livelihood skills, and emphasized the formation of teams or cooperative societies for successful models.

Expressing her sincere appreciation to the people of Meluri and Pochury for their dedicated and hardworking culture, Dr. Kaur highlighted the various talents exhibited by the people of Pochury in trades such as pottery, salt making, and cane works, which have been preserved and practiced for generations.

During her address, Dr. Batra cautioned that in the present day, the enemies to individuals and society are alcohol and drugs. She emphasized that indulging in these intoxicating elements can be more devastating than major wars. She called for collective efforts to address these challenges and promote a healthy and thriving community.

The evening fiesta featured a Carol competition from nine wards, folk tunes, and presentations of talents from various artists and bands. The program was chaired by Chitsiarho Po, President of MKK.
