In a suspected burglary, unidentified miscreant(s) allegedly broke into the office of the Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) and stole a huge sum of money. Sources informed that the amount stolen totalled to approximately ₹1 crore which was being kept in the office meant for staff salary disbursement.

Informed sources also said that the incident came to light early Tuesday morning when sweepers arrived for duty around 5:30 AM. Upon entering the premises, the workers said to have discovered signs of forced entry and alerted authorities.

It was reported that about seven safe lockers were found damaged, and preliminary investigation revealed the presence of footprints and fingerprints at the crime scene.

Interestingly, there is no CCTV surveillance system installed in the office, which also houses the Kohima Smart City Development Limited (KSCDL), impeding the investigation process for the authorities.

Officials said a forensic team from Dimapur was dispatched to the scene to carry out a detailed examination. It has been learnt that a case is yet to be registered at the time of filing of this report since preliminary investigation is ongoing.
