Campaign period for ULB polls ends, restrictions in place

Mokokchung/Wokha: Voters bound for polling station, officials, magistrates, security personnel, emergency services exempted from restrictions

The campaigning period for the elections to the municipal and town councils in Nagaland has come to an end today at 4:00 pm and with it, certain restrictions on assembly and movement of persons have been put in place till the poll day on 26th June 2024.

MOKOKCHUNG

As precautionary measures to prevent occurrence of untoward incidents in the interest of maintaining peace and tranquillity in the limits of the ULB areas, namely, Mokokchung Municipal Council, Tuli Town Council, Mangklemba Town Council and Changtongya Town Council, The Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate, Mokokchung, has directed that no person shall

  1. Convene, hold, attend, join or address any public meeting or procession in connection with an election: or
  2. Display to the public any election matter by means of cinematograph, television or other similar apparatus; or
  3. Propagate any election matter to the public by holding, or by arranging the holding of, any musical concert or any theatrical performance or any other entertainment or amusement with a view to attaching the members of the public thereto.

Further, following restrictions shall apply to:

  1. Assembly of five or more persons including holding of any public meeting shall be prohibited in the limits of the aforementioned ULB areas from 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM.
  2. All political functionaries/party workers/campaign workers who are not voters or residents of the ULB areas shall immediately leave those areas.

The officials and staff of District Administration, Security Personnel, Magistrate on Duty, Medical Personnel and persons engaged in election duty/ essential services shall be exempted from all above restrictions.

WOKHA

The Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate, Wokha has directed that:

  1. All campaign workers/activist etc present in the Wokha/Bhandari Town areas for the purpose of election campaign for candidates, but not being a voter/resident of the Wokha/Bhandari Town shall leave the Town area effective immediately till 26th June 2024.
  2. Similarly, the campaign workers/activist etc present in a ward of Wokha/Bhandari Town, but not being voter/resident of that ward shall leave the ward effective immediately till 26th June 2024.

Further on the day of poll i.e. 26th June 2024, following additional restrictions shall remain in place:

  1. Assembly of five or more persons shall be prohibited in the Wokha/Bhandari Town areas.
  2. Movement of persons from one ward to another shall be prohibited in Wokha/Bhandari Town.

The DC informed that voters bound for polling station, officials on election duty, magistrates on duty, security personnel and emergency services shall be exempt from above restrictions.
