Changtongya Senso Telongjem Mokokchung celebrates Tsüngremmong Festival with cultural fervor

Mokokchung: C. Longkok urges community to see this revival not as one-time event but as continuous effort

The Changtongya Senso Telongjem Mokokchung marked the celebration of the Tsüngremmong Festival at Sangtemla Hall, near Town Hall, Mokokchung, on Saturday. The event was a vibrant display of cultural heritage and traditions, aimed at reviving and preserving the rich cultural identity of the community.

Alemtozung, Tatar of Kosasanger Putu Menden Changtongya, emphasized the significance of the Tsüngremmong festival in his speech. He highlighted that the festival, once celebrated with great interest and purity, faced a decline with the advent of Christianity, which led to a shift away from traditional beliefs and attires. However, he noted a positive change with the present generation’s efforts to revive this cultural heritage, recognizing it as a crucial aspect of their identity and roots.

C. Longkok, Anükapang, delivered a brief yet impactful greeting and exhortation. He brought the essence of the Tsüngremmong festival to life by singing significant folk songs, recounting the Morung system where different age groups of boys and girls would partake in these traditions. He urged the community to see this revival not as a one-time event but as a continuous effort to celebrate their festivals with the same enthusiasm as their forefathers.

Tsuknungtuba, Convenor of the Jubilee Planning Committee, elaborated on the importance of organizing the Tsüngremmong festival. His insights were further enriched by the greetings and exhortations from I. Merang Aier, Anükapang, and S. Arenla Longkumer, President of Watsü Mungdang.

The program was chaired by Yashisenia and Tiakumzuk, an invocation was pronounced by Kikum Longkumer, Pastor of Kumlong Baptist Arogo. The Changtongya Senso Telongjem Mokokchung presented a traditional Tsüngremmong song, followed by a special song performance by Wananglemla Y Jamir and Limasenla Y Jamir. The event concluded with a welcome address by Tiatoshi, President of CSTM.
