CL John inaugurates Mon Wildlife Division

Minister for Environment, Forests & Climate Change and Village Guard, Government of Nagaland, CL John inaugurated the Mon Wildlife Division in the presence of Y Kikheto Sema, IAS, Principal Secretary to the Government of Nagaland, Department of Environment, Forests & Climate Change and Vedpal Singh, IFS, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests & Head of Forest Force, Nagaland on April 22 at Forest Colony, Mon Town.

In his speech, the Minister said that community participation is very important for the preservation of wildlife species and the conservation of forest. He encouraged the civil societies – Konyak Union, Konyak Nyupuh Sheko Khong, Konyak Students’ Union and even the Church Leaders to save nature and environment. He also expressed his gratitude to the Government of Nagaland and the Forest Department for setting up the Mon Wildlife Division. He also requests the concerned Officials to run the office with sincerity and responsibility.

Vedpal Singh, IFS, in his address, shared his past experiences working at Mon and said that at present people are realizing the effect of climate change and are coming up with new mentality – from hunting to preservation.  He informed that today many villages and organizations like the KU and KSU are coming out to protect wildlife.

Y Kikheto Sema, IAS, in his short speech said that climate change is no more “barking at us but biting us”. He informed the gathering that Article 371 (A) of the Indian Constitution would not save the Nagas from climate change and urged the people to protect, preserve wildlife and the environment by planting more trees.

Konyak Union President, Yamao Konyak lauded the Government of Nagaland and the Department of Environment, Forests & Climate Change for opening Forest Beat Office at Chen town and Wildlife Division at Mon town.

The programme was chaired by Supongnukshi, IFS. Addl. PCCF (Territorial). Invocation was delivered by Rev. Yeangphong Konyak, District Chaplain, and a special number was presented by Samuel Konyak. Vote of thanks was delivered by Chupitho, SFS, Wildlife warden, Mon Wildlife Division.
