Government Middle School (GMS), New Pangsha, inaugurated its newly constructed additional classroom and officially launched the Rural Education Mission (REM) on Tuesday at the Council Hall, New Pangsha.
Deputy Commissioner of Noklak, P Mono Khiamniungan, NCS, graced the occasion as the special guest. He inaugurated the additional classroom and formally launched the Rural Education Mission (REM), a community-led initiative aimed at strengthening educational development and improving learning opportunities in rural areas.
Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner observed that education in many rural areas is still at the grassroots level and appreciated the community for taking the initiative to improve the quality of education. He expressed hope that such collective efforts would bring about positive and lasting change.
Emphasizing the importance of strengthening village schools, he stated that basic facilities and necessities should be made available to ensure a quality learning environment. He also encouraged parents to enroll their children in schools within their own village and make the best use of the available resources.
Highlighting the role of the Church, Mono described education as a mission and said that churches have a vital responsibility in promoting and supporting education within the community. He further stressed the important role of Anganwadi workers in providing early childhood care and education, laying a strong foundation for children before they begin primary schooling.

Head Teacher, M Hanga shared the overview of the REM stating that the community-driven initiative, launched in 2026, aims to improve students’ learning conditions both at home and in school. He said that the mission focuses on supporting underprivileged students through the provision of basic educational resources, study furniture, solar lamps for homes without electricity, and academic guidance.
He also emphasized the importance of strengthening parental involvement through awareness programmes, arranging sector-wise tuition classes, recognizing meritorious students, and organizing educational field trips to foster a better learning environment and improve educational outcomes.
Hanga also recited his originally composed poem ‘O My World , Reclaim Me’, which is a reflection on the rapidly changing world and the life of a poor person.
Area Education Officer, Noklak, B Ngon lauded the community for actively participating in building the project. Pangsha, being the last corner of the country facing many challenges, he extended his appreciation for such initiative.
President, All Pangsha Students’ Union in his speech said that the initiative is a challenge to the classroom beyond the classroom. He also pointed the factors which challenge the village economically, further, urged the parents to let their children make use of the basic necessities instead of sending them out of village. He also requested the education department to consider transfer of teachers.
