District Economics & Statistics Officer, Kohima, Belho, provided an overview of the 8th Economic Census. She informed that the census will cover all establishments, including household enterprises involved in the production or distribution of goods and services. However, agricultural establishments engaged in crop production and plantations will be excluded. Likewise, non-agricultural establishments related to public administration, defence, compulsory social security, domestic personnel employment, territorial organization activities, and illegal activities will not be covered.

Belho stated that the 8th Economic Census aims to provide comprehensive data on the operational and economic variables of non-agricultural establishments across various administrative levels—from national to village and ward levels. It will also update the Directory of Establishments and serve as a vital frame for future sample surveys. Noting the history of economic censuses, she mentioned that seven ECs have been conducted since 1977, but the data from the 7th EC (2019–2021) could not be released due to various reasons.
