CVYS and Chümoukedima DC issues public advisory

Following the tragic accident which claimed two lives, the Chümoukedima Village Youth Society (CVYS) and Deputy Commissioner of Chümoukedima has issued advisories for public safety along the route from Chumoukedima Town (Old Check Gate) to New Chumoukedima via Old Chumoukedima Village.

In a public advisory, DC Chümoukedima informed that all vehicular movement along the route from Chumoukedima Town (Old Check Gate) to New Chumoukedima via Old Chumoukedima Village stretch shall be temporarily restricted/closed till its completion, except those vehicles directly engaged in the said road construction.

All commuters has been requested to take note of the restriction and plan their journey accordingly.

In a condolence message and public advisory, the CVYS extended its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families of the two individuals who tragically lost their lives in the accident that occurred in the early hours of May 15, 2025, at Tsiesepru, Old Chümoukedima Heritage Village.

The accident took place on the ongoing bypass road, where a vehicle carrying four occupants plunged approximately 300 meters off the road.

The CVYS also expressed sincere appreciation to all those who rendered selfless service during the tragic incident. It acknowledged and thanked the Chümoukedima Traffic Police, the State Disaster Response Team, and the leaders and youths who were present and assisted at the site.

In light of the unfortunate event, CVYS issued the following public advisory :

-Effective immediately, all vehicular movement on the bypass road is strictly prohibited, except for Vehicles involved in ongoing construction work, Vehicles belonging to landowners in the area.

-The bypass road shall be opened to the general public only in the event of a blockage on the main highway.

“This directive has been issued in the interest of public safety. We earnestly seek the cooperation of the general public, and any violation of this order will be dealt with firmly by CVYS. Let us all remain vigilant and work together to prevent further tragedies,” stated the CVYS.
