DC Wokha orders removal of unauthorised structure; LSU urges ANPSA to keep educational institutions closed

Wokha: Students appearing exams, teachers on exam duties exempted from bandh

The Deputy Commissioner of Wokha district, Ajit Kumar Ranjan, IAS, has ordered a “mop up exercise” for the removal of authorised structures on compensated land. The DC informed that the clearance would be held on 12th February 2024 (Monday).

“In continuation of earlier demolition/clearance exercises conducted on 19th June 2023, 30th June 2023 and 1st February 2024, a mop up exercise for removal of unauthorized structures within compensated land along the NH-61(NH-2) from Km 72.400 to Km 83.000 of NH-61 (New NH-02) under Wokha, Nagaland shall be conducted on 12th February, 2024 starting from 7:00AM”, the DC stated in the notification. Further, the DC has urged the following to be present during the exercise – EE, PWD (NH), Kohima Division; EE, PHED, Wokha, Nagaland; EE, Power, Wokha, Nagaland; three Representatives of Lotha Hoho; three Representatives of Joint Action Committee Wokha.

Meanwhile, the Lotha Students’ Union has requested the All Nagaland Private Schools Association (ANPSA) Wokha Unit to keep all educational institutions in the district closed until further notice in view of the indefinite bandh called by the Wokha based civil society organisations (CSOs).

LSU mentioned that the bandh has “significantly disrupted the normal flow of traffic and poses potential risks to the safety and security of students, teachers, and officials commuting to and from educational institutions.”

However, the students body informed that students appearing High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) and Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate (HSSLC) Examinations, as well as for teachers and officials engaged in examination duties are exempted from the bandh.

“The safety and well-being of our students and educators are of paramount importance, and we trust that this decision will contribute to maintaining a secure and conducive learning environment,” Lotha Students’ Union President Lirhonthung E Kithan, Education & Statistical Secretary Nyanthung M Khuvung and General Secretary Chanpenthung stated in its letter.
