Dimapur has won Swachh Survekshan Award 2023 for the cleanest city within Nagaland with population greater than one lakh on Thursday at a function in New Delhi organized by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. In the same function, Tuensang was awarded for being the cleanest city within the State with population lower than one lakh.
President Droupadi Murmu felicitated 13 awardees under the categories of Clean Cities, Cleanest Cantonment, SafaiMitra Suraksha, Ganga Towns and Best Performing State.
Indore (Madhya Pradesh) and Surat (Gujarat) were declared the cleanest cities in India. This is the seventh consecutive time Indore has won the title. In the category of cities with a population of less than one lakh, Sasvad (Maharashtra), Patan (Chhatisgarh) and Lonavala (Maharashtra) secured the top three spots. Mhow Cantonment Board in Madhya Pradesh was adjudged the Cleanest Cantonment Board. Varanasi and Prayagraj won the top two awards amongst the Cleanest Ganga Towns. Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh won the top three awards for Best Performing State. Chandigarh walked away with the award for the Best Safaimitra Surakshit Sheher. 110 awards were bestowed during the Swachh Survekshan Awards 2023 ceremony.

Addressing the occasion, the President appreciated the wide participation of States in the Swachh Survekshan and the effective steps being taken to ensure the safety, dignity and welfare of Safai Mitras. She said that the circular economy’s methods of recycling and reusing more goods are proving helpful for sustainable development. If we deeply consider the concept of value from waste, it becomes clear that everything is valuable, nothing is waste, she added.
Stressing that cleanliness is essential for health and development, President Murmu expressed her happiness that such dump-sites are being eliminated under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan and conveyed that she is confidence that effective work will be done in all the urban areas and the target of zero dump-site will be achieved.
In conclusion, the President challenged the youth of the country to move forward with the big goal of making India the cleanest country in the world. If the young generation decides to keep all the cities and the entire country clean, then India of 2047 will certainly celebrate its centenary of independence by being included among the cleanest countries in the world, she said.
Since 2016, the Swachh Survekshan Awards is being organised under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs to encourage large scale citizen participation and create awareness amongst all sections of society about the importance of working together towards making towns and cities better places to reside in.
