The Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation on Friday denounced the authenticity of a fake draft that is being widely circulated labeled as the original proposal submitted by ENPO to the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India. It is completely fake and misleading, the organisation said and urged individuals to refrain from engaging in unscrupulous practices and emphasizes the significance of acting in a true Christian spirit.

ENPO mentioned in its statement that the said draft contains points claiming that it proposed laying down arms by National Workers from Eastern Nagaland and erecting border fencing along the Indo-Myanmar border in the Eastern Nagaland areas. However, ENPO categorically denounced these points.

The apex body clarified that the original proposed draft submitted to Gol contains no mention of surrendering National Workers along with their arms. The organization stressed that the Naga National Movement represents a larger cause, making the point of surrender irrelevant. To avoid any ambiguity, ENPO asserted that their landmark resolution of December 18, 2007 – “There shall be no bloodshed, killings, intimidation or any form of violence within ENPO jurisdiction” – will continue to be in effect across the entire region.

Moreover, it affirmed that the original draft does not include any proposal for fencing the international border. The organisation highlighted its opposition to such measures, dating back to 2016 when they actively protested and obstructed a move to construct fencing along the Myanmar border. ENPO officials, along with the Khiamniungan Tribal Council, even presented a memorandum to the Prime Minister in 2017 opposing any such fencing.

ENPO asserted that the core objective of the proposed new arrangement emphasizes its aim to fulfill the people’s aspirations for a self-governing administrative setup under Article 371A of the Constitution of India. The organization expressed that the ultimate goal is to enable the people of the region to attain their social, political, economic, educational, cultural, and linguistic aspirations.

Addressing an earlier point in the draft, ENPO stated that the proposal to amend Article 371A(1)(d) for the Regional Council provision has been entirely removed from the current proposal.

The organisation also reaffirmed its resolute commitment to the Naga National Movement’s greater and common cause for all Nagas, irrespective of tribes or areas. It reassured stakeholders that no point in the proposed draft will hinder the movement or infringe upon Article 371A of the Constitution of India.

Furthermore, in light of the ongoing negotiations, ENPO appealed to all Nagas, the Government of Nagaland, and all stakeholders to extend moral support and work together for a peaceful signing of the new arrangement.

The organization seeks the blessings of all the Nagas in the pursuit of a brighter future for Eastern Nagaland, ENPO stated.
