The Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation (ENPO) has urged the Nagaland Government to convene the proposed special session of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly without further delay to enact legislation for the constitution of the Frontier Nagaland Territorial Authority (FNTA).

In a statement, the ENPO welcomed the State Government’s July 6, 2026 decision to confer legislative autonomy on the FNTA in accordance with the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) signed on February 5, 2026, describing it as a significant step towards fulfilling the commitments made under the tripartite agreement.

The Organisation said it was aware that consultations between the State Government and the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), as provided under Clause 3.3 of the MoA, had progressed positively and had now reached the final stage.

Referring to the State Government’s press statement of July 6, ENPO noted that the government had already announced its decision to convene a special Assembly session to enact legislation for the constitution of the FNTA. It said the proposed legislation would contain the necessary legal provisions to confer legislative powers on the authority in respect of the transferred subjects.

The ENPO said that, in pursuance of the State Cabinet’s decision and resolution of July 6, the government should now convene the special Assembly session without any further delay and implement what had already been publicly declared.

The Organisation also expressed hope that the forthcoming Independence Day would serve as a testament to the trust, commitment and integrity of all stakeholders in honouring and implementing the provisions of the MoA.

Recalling that it had deferred its proposed public rally scheduled for July 10, 2026, following appeals from the State Government, the ENLU Convenor and the Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha), the ENPO said it had honoured those requests in good faith.

It expressed hope that all stakeholders would now reciprocate by fulfilling their commitments and working sincerely towards constituting the FNTA in both letter and spirit.

The ENPO further appealed to both the State Government and the Ministry of Home Affairs to expedite the establishment of the FNTA, stating that its implementation would be in line with the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 and the Government of India’s guiding principle of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas.”
