Prajwal Revanna, MP from Hassan, Karnataka and also Janata Dal (Secular)’s candidate from the same Constituency, has reportedly fled the country after the Karnataka Government ordered for a special investigation team (SIT) to probe into the allegations of Revanna sexually abusing multiple women including helpers in his house.

The 33 years old is the third youngest MP in India and the grandson of former prime minister HD Deve Gowda. JD(S) is in alliance with NDA.

On 29th April 2024, an FIR was filed based on the complaint of a former house maid who accused Prajwal Revanna and his father MLA HD Revanna of sexually exploitation and harassment over several years.

Prajwal Revanna’s constituency went for poll on 26th April 2024 during Phase 2. Days before the polling day, videos began circulating in Karnataka allegedly of the MP abusing women. On the poll day, Revanna, through his polling agent, put a complaint claiming that the videos had been manipulated but two day later, he reportedly boarded a plane for Frankfurt.

Meanwhile a letter written by BJP leader Devaraj Gowda to the Karnataka BJP President in December 2024 has surfaced. In the letter Gowda questions BJP forming an alliance with JD(S) while informing of the alleged acts of Prajwal Revanna. The BJP leader also stated that 2976 video clips were already with some Congress leaders and advised not to give ticket to the seat to the incumbent candidate.

Today, Congress leader Pawan Khera posted the letter on X and questioned why no action was taken on the “serial rapes video recorded and kept in the pen-drive” and slammed the BJP for going ahead with the alliance. Khera also criticized the Prime Minister for campaigning for Prajwal Revanna. He also questioned who had helped the accused flee the country.

Opposition leaders are also questioning the silence of the Union Minister of Women and Child Development Smriti Zubin Irani and Chairperson of National Women Commission Rekha Sharma.

Meanwhile, according to a report by Hindustan Times, former CM of Karnataka and BJP leader Basavaraj Bommai has told media persons that the timing of the alleged ‘sex scandal’ against Prajwal Revanna must be “pre-planned” with the election time.

HT quoted Bommai, “Given the timing of the incident, the Hassan sex scandal seems to be pre-planned by someone. I heard that some of the videos are fake. Many similar videos are doing rounds, but why SIT probe on this?”
