Fire breaks out at Kitsubozou, Kohima; several houses and vehicles damaged

A major fire incident broke out today in one of the most populated neighbourhood in Kohima at Kitsubozou near Chakhesang Baptist Church.  The fire razed down several Buildings affecting about 14 household. Six vehicles were damaged in the fire. The total assessment of damage caused by the inferno is yet to be ascertained.

Sedevizo Hibo, Officer-in-charge, South Fire Station informed Nagaland Tribune, that fire reportedly broke out due to LPG leakage and spread rapidly to other areas. The Fire and Emergency Services received a call around 11.50 am reporting on the fire. Subsequently, four fire tenders were dispatched from the South Station while another three fire tenders were dispatched from the North Station.

Seven fire tenders were pressed into action requiring 14 trips and assistance from SDRF, Assam Rifles NSDMA and concerned citizens to bring the fire under control, informed the official.

No casualties or loss of lives were reported, stated Hibo.

A press release issued by the HQ IGAR (N) informed that the Assam Rifles helped to control and extinguish a major fire incident which took place due to household fire (gas cylinder) at a house near Chakhesang Baptist Church in Kohima on 19 March 2024.  “The troops of Assam Rifles rushed to the spot, evacuated men and materials from the site and commenced the fire fighting mission with the available resources and controlled the spread  of fire to nearby building, house and market,” informed the Assam Rifles.

“The timely initiative and proactive fire fighting drills by Assam Rifles  in controlling the fire as well as safeguarding men and materials thus averted a major disaster which could have resulted in greater loss to life and property. Locals and Government authorities expressed their gratitude for the act of immediate response of Assam Rifles,” added the press release.
