Flu-like illness in Noklak’s Dan village cause alarm; samples sent to Kohima, NIV Pune

Noklak: 14th Assam Rifles conducts 3-day Emergency Medical Camp that helps bring down cases

An illness with flu-like symptoms has affected several people in the Indo-Myanmar border village of Dan under Noklak district, Nagaland. The symptoms of the mystery illness include cough, fever and nausea and affects both young and old.

Following the alarming rise of cases as, the Dan Village Council sought medical assistance from the 14th Assam Rifles who organised a three-day Emergency Medical Camp from 23-25 August 2024 for the locals affected by the outbreak. Two nurses from District Hospital Noklak assisted in providing medical help.

It has been said that cases have since reduced.

It had been reported that a total of 271 people were affected and treated, while 17 patients were placed under observation for close monitoring. Samples collected from 49 patients have reportedly been sent to Kohima and further to National Institute of Virology (NIV) at Pune, Maharashtra and the result is awaited.

The Primary Health Centre, Dan, being insufficiently staffed with just one nurse, was not equipped to handle such an outbreak of this magnitude. It has been learnt that the locals of Dan Village usually travel to Pangsha for any kind of medical needs.
