Former MLA Mhao Humtsoe passes away at 84

Former MLA Mhao Humtsoe, aged 84, passed away on April 19, 2024, at 4:12 PM, at his residence in Wokha town.

Born on October 10, 1939, in Longsa Village, Wokha, Late Mhao Humtsoe dedicated his life to serving the people. He was elected to the Nagaland Legislative Assembly in 1974 and 1982 from the 38th Wokha A/C. Additionally. He also served as the Chairman of Lotha Hoho from 2014 to 2018.

The funeral service will be held today, April 20, 2024, at 10:30 AM, at his residence in GA Colony, Wokha Town.

Mhao Humtsoe holds the distinction of being the first graduate from his village. He completed his matriculation from High School Wokha in 1963, followed by his PU studies in Commerce at Shillong College, Meghalaya, in 1964. Subsequently, he graduated from Scottish Church College, Calcutta University, in 1969, and pursued BA/LLA studies at Dibrugarh.

Throughout his life, Mhao Humtsoe held numerous leadership positions. He was the first Student Leader of Longsa Village in 1958 and served as the inaugural chairman of Wokha Town Baptist Church Youth Fellowship in 1960. Additionally, he played a pivotal role as the General Secretary of the Naga Students’ Union Calcutta in 1967. His contributions extended to being the Chairman of PAC and NKVIB, a founding member of Christian Medical Centre (CMC) Vankhosang (1984), and serving as Naga Hoho Regional Secretary from 2001 to 2003, among other roles.

His legacy of leadership and service has left an indelible mark on his community and beyond.
