Goodwill School convened an Autism Awareness cum Parents Meeting on April 12 designed to enhance understanding and support for children with autism.
The gathering was chaired by Chungam, with an invocation by Echi, following which Nahtei Konyak, the Headmaster of Goodwill School, took the floor to deliver keynotes that informed and engaged the parents in attendance.
In his address, he announced the school’s exciting new initiative: a play-class program for students aged 2 to 3. He emphasized that the goal of this program is to help young learners adapt to their new environment and facilitate social exposure ahead of their formal enrollment in the academic year. Additionally, he highlighted that the school would be implementing phonics instruction starting this academic year, aimed at enriching students’ vocabulary and enhancing their phonetic awareness in spelling.
The Headmaster took pride In informing parents that Goodwill School has been providing special classes for differently-abled students since last year. He assured parents of the school’s continued commitment to offering personalized attention to each child, ensuring that education is inclusive and equitable, without discrimination based on individual differences.
Kingchai Konyak, the school’s director, then spoke on the critical subject of autism awareness. He informed that Autism Awareness is observed in the 1st week of April every year. He highlighted its symptoms and effects. He emphasized that “acceptance about autism is the foremost steps and it’s awareness in our society”. He further, emphasized the importance of recognizing early signs of autism, which can manifest in children as early as 3 to 6 months of age. His insightful remarks aimed to empower parents with knowledge and encourage early interventions when necessary.
Following the director’s address, an open discussion ensued between parents and teachers, fostering a collaborative environment where concerns and ideas could be shared freely. Parents expressed their appreciation for the school’s administrative efforts and the initiatives aimed at inclusivity and support for all students.

Wangchat Konyak, Assistant Headmaster, addressed parents, speaking on the importance of their feedback in enhancing school administration. He emphasized that the insights and ideas shared by parents would play a vital role in uplifting the educational environment, benefiting both teachers and students alike.
He reassured parents that providing constructive feedback is not meant to undermine teachers, but rather to support their professional growth. “Your suggestions will help our teachers refine their skills and inspire them to embrace creative teaching methods,” he stated. “By fostering an atmosphere of collaboration, we can collectively elevate the quality of education for our students.”
He urged parents to actively participate in the dialogue, assuring them that their contributions are valued and necessary for the continuous improvement of the school. “Together, we can create a vibrant learning environment that enables both students and teachers to excel,” he concluded.
To further strengthen the partnership between parents and the school, parents were informed to submit two parents names as representatives to serve on the board committee.
Before concluding the meeting, Kaiba W delivered a warm vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all attendees for their participation and active engagement.
