Governor of Nagaland, La. Ganesan visited the Land of Angh and held a meeting with the head of Departments & CSOs of Mon District on 17th October 2024 at DC’s Conference Hall, Mon. The Governor was accompanied by Rajesh Soundararajan, IAS, Commissioner & Secretary to the Governor.
In his speech, the Governor said it was an honor for him to visit Mon District which is known for its unparalleled cultural legacy. He appreciated the richness of culture and the vibrant people of Mon district. He also said that the color dance, tradition and valiant history of Konyak has always been a source of immense pride for Nagaland. The majestic wood carvings, the awe-inspiring Aoleang Festival, and the poignant tales of the past are the embodiments of a spirit that has endured through the ages, said the Governor. He requested to protect and promote the rich culture for young generation, and encouraged, to host more cultural days in schools and also debate the relevance of culture and innovate them while standing firmly upon the bedrock of our tradition.
He showed his gratitude to the healthcare workers who have shown resilience and courage, especially during the challenges posed by the recent pandemic. Asserting that health of our people is the foundation of this future, he said that community rooted in wellness and prevention is important for healthcare. Stressing on government health related schemes, he urged the concerned department to take these schemes to the doorsteps of the citizens, so that the common citizen is benefited. He also highlighted the Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan endeavors to eliminate TB by 2025, 5 (five) years ahead of the global target and urged the health authority to enhance awareness about the PM TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan.
Speaking on road construction work under the state PWD and NHIDCL, which are under progress, he assured that soon border areas of the state will be connected with good roads and stated that connectivity is the lifeline of progress. Roads are the foundation for trade and commerce, the pathways to education by which we connect to each other, he encouraged to prioritize sustainable and robust infrastructure that stands the test of time and weather.
He also urged the leaders, educators to renew commitment to the quest for knowledge, invigorate our institutions, inspire students and invest in the future of our district through education. He also mentioned about the 2nd Medical college of Nagaland, which will be functioning soon in the service of our state and our country.
Lamenting on drug abuse problem in the state as one of the menaces in the society, especially among the youths, the Governor said, “It destroys not only individuals but causes untold miseries to the families as well as the society.” He therefore urged, upon the civil societies and law enforcement agencies to go all out against drug abuse which can possibly stop the inflow of drugs to our state and make it inaccessible to our youths at all cost.
He also called upon the esteemed citizen to embody the spirit of responsible citizen, to contribute actively to the dialogue and processes that shapes our state and our country. Assuring that these challenges are at the forefront of our agenda, he called upon and reminded that local communities and the civil societies must work hand in hand with government both at the centre and the state, not only to address our immediate concerns but must lay down a sustainable and progressive road map for our state’s future.
Earlier, the Governor was received by the officials in Mon helipad and Guard of Honor at Walo Guest House. He was warmly Welcomed and facilitated with Konyak Shawls and the traditional gifts by DC Mon at DC’s Conference Hall, Mon. Deputy Commissioner Mon, Ajit Kumar Verma, IAS Chaired the programme and Welcomed the Special Guest and the members. A brief PPT on the profile of Mon District was presented by SDO (C) Hq. Mon. Konyak Union gave a representation to the Governor reminding of the FNT, while the President of Konyak Students’ Union highlighted the road condition, Medical and Education facilities in Mon District. Rev. Metjen Konyak, Executive Secretary of KBBB, highlighted the Konyaks, it’s land and Konyaks living across the boarders.
