Nagaland Governor La Ganesan will be gracing the inaugural ceremony of the I.I.M.U.N. Kohima Conference 2024 on 23rd May at G. Rio School, Kohima. Over 300 students from across 15 schools are set to participate in various committees in a MUN format roleplaying various world leaders and learning diplomacy, negotiation, public-speaking and research skills.
India’s International Movement to Unite Nations (I.I.M.U.N.) informed in a press release that while the conference will be inaugurated on 23rd May 2024, the debate sessions will start on 24th May at G. Rio School spread across 12 committees in 12 classrooms. This day will see simultaneous debates across these 12 committees and raise various moderated and unmoderated caucuses and challenges against other students. At the end of the debating sessions, a speaker series and a talent hunt which will see students showcase their talent.
The closing ceremony will be held at G. Rio School, Kohima on 25th May 2024 where the three winners from each committee selected based on their performance, speaking skills, diplomacy and research about the committee and their portfolio will be felicitated along with the best school delegation for I.I.M.U.N. Kohima Conference 2024.
In an introduction to the Guest of the inaugural ceremony, the organisers stated:
La. Ganesan Iyer is an Indian politician who is serving as the 19th Governor of Nagaland. Ganesan was born on 16 February 1945 in a Telugu Brahmin family. He grew up with his brother after his father died at a young age. He joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), left his job without getting married, and returned to public life as a full-time activist. Before being appointed General Secretary of the TN BJP unit, he was a Pracharak in RSS. He then served as the National Secretary and as the Vice President of BJP. He was selected as the President of BJP’s Tamil Nadu state unit. He is a former Member of Parliament in Rajya Sabha and replaced the former union minister Najma Heptulla as a Member of Parliament in Rajya Sabha from Madhya Pradesh. His previous tenures include the 17th Governor of Manipur between 27 August 2021 and 12 February 2023, and the Governor of West Bengal between 18 July 2022 and 17 November 2022. Ganesan is the senior leader of the Tamil Nadu Bharatiya Janata Party.
