Heritage of the Past, Legacy for the Future: KGBV Girls’ Hostel Noklak celebrates Cultural Day

Noklak: 90 students currently benefitting from moral, social, cultural development fostered by KGBV Noklak

The Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) Girls’ Hostel, Noklak celebrated Cultural Day under the theme ” Heritage of the Past, Legacy for the Future” today at the KGBV Hostel Danlepdong, Noklak.

Special Guest L. Ngon, President of Khiamniungan Tribal Council, in his address, stressed on the values, virtues and courage, hardworking nature which the forefathers have always beheld.  Stating that many cultural practices are also forsaken due to genuine reasons, he urged the younger generations of today to uphold what is best suitable for the present day. He also emphasized on preservation of cultural identity.

K. Chongkoi, President of Khiamniungan Menyiu Hoikam, emphasized on the importance of folktales and traditional attires. She explained in details about the significance of each attire, adding that one should preserve and pass on to the coming generations.

Earlier, the program was chaired by Jonglio Lam, Matron, KGBV Noklak, invocation was pronounced by Themshao, KGBV staff, Jongti read “My Culture my Identity”, Bamboo dance was performed by KGBV hostellers, vote of thanks by Tsehoi, KGBV Matron and benediction was pronounced by Keshe Khiamniungan, Vice President, KMH.

About KGBV Noklak:

A total of 200 female students have benefitted from different government schools in and around Noklak. Presently, 90 students are enrolled.  KGBV provides whole round development – moral, social, cultural. Stipends and toiletry items are provided to students every month and special classes in self-defence are given to the students every week. Vocational classes in cutting and tailoring is also imparted in the hostel where dropouts are also invited. Medical camps and awareness are conducted every year for girls’ hygiene and health concerns. Sports, literary and exposure trip are organised every year where merit students are awarded. Admission to the institution is open all round year.
