37 years old Humpy Koneru won the FIDE Women World Rapid Chess Champion 2024 yesterday. This is the second time for Koneru to earn the World Rapid title.
Announcing on a post on Instagram, Koneru stated that the title is dedicated to her country, all chess fans and her family. Koneru also expressed pride in the Indian Chess community and the success It has achieved day after day.
“Became the World Rapid Chess Champion. 2024 couldn’t have ended on a better note. This world title feels different. Truly overjoyed. After the Candidates 2024, I didn’t do well in major tournaments and was questioning myself, even my participation for a moment. This WORLD TITLE is dedicated to my country, all the chess fans and my family. It was surely very unexpected, especially after the tough Day 1, but it worked out in the end. It wouldn’t have been possible without the support of my husband, parents and family. Very proud of Indian Chess community and the success we are achieving day after day. Thanks to our chess federation @aicf_chess @media.iccsai and the corporates for their continuous support. I’m honoured to make our country proud.”
