ICSSR-sponsored 10-day Workshop on Research Methodology for Social Science scholars underway at NU

Thirty research scholars from universities and IIITs across India are participating in the ten-day workshop on Research Methodology for Social Science Ph.D. and PDF scholars that got underway at Nagaland University, Kohima campus on 19th February 2025. Sponsored by the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) and jointly organized by Department of Management and Department of Education, Nagaland University, prominent resource persons from nationally-recognized institutions will deliver lectures during the workshop.

A press release from NU PRO, Peter Ki, informed that the inaugural ceremony was held on Wednesday in the Ladies’ Common Room, NU, Kohima campus. Chaired by Prof. Lungsang Zeliang, the inaugural ceremony commenced with a welcome address from Prof. K.D. Singh, Head, Dept. of Management.

This was followed by an orientation note from the Course Co-Director Dr. M. Rajendra Nath Babu, Assoc. Professor, Dept. of Education. Dr. Babu shared that in the past the participants of such workshops have achieved fruitful results, securing placements in various central and state universities, colleges, and private institutions. He added that the current workshop received an overwhelming response of more than 470 applications from across India. However, only 30 applicants could be accommodated as per ICSSR norms and reservation policies.

Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof. G.T. Thong graced the inaugural ceremony as the Chief Guest. In his speech, Prof. Thong emphasized the importance of research aptitude for research scholars in social sciences. He advised the research scholars to partake in courses that equip them with the essentials to design rigorous, reliable, and ethical research endeavors.

Prof. Thong elaborated on the need to enhance one’s knowledge with regard to theoretical frameworks, research methods, data collection, analysis, and ethical considerations. He also dwelt on emerging trends, including big data analytics, mixed-method research, digital ethnography, and participatory action research. By mastering research methodology, he asserted, scholars can critically evaluate literature, utilize digital tools, and contribute to impactful and transparent research in their respective fields.

The inaugural program concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Course Director Dr. Ditalak Mpanme, Asst. Professor, Dept. of Management, Nagaland University.

The workshop will conclude on 28th February 2025.
