To commemorate its 150th anniversary on 15th January 2025, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) is organizing a National Meteorological Olympiad (Met- Olympiad) to promote interest and awareness about weather and climate sciences among students. The Olympiad will target students from classes 8th, 9th, and 11th, conducted at state and national levels.
The Olympiad will be conducted in two stages: State Level: An online test for registered participants and National Level: A contest and workshop for state-level winners in New Delhi.
The Olympiad features a 1-hour online examination with 60 multiple-choice questions (MCQs) based on meteorology and related sciences which will be conducted in English only. Study materials, syllabus, and sample questions are available on the official portal (https://mausam.imd.gov.in/met-oly/).
The eligibility and registration is open to students from classes 8, 9, and 11. Registration is online at https://mausam.imd.gov.in/met-oly/
Participants must ensure their devices (computer, laptop, tablet, or mobile) and internet connectivity are compatible with the online test platform. Organizers are not liable for technical issues during the exam.
Awards State-Level Prizes
For each class (8, 9, 11): 1st Prize: Rs. 5000, 2nd Prize: Rs. 3000 and 3rd Prize: Rs. 2000.
Top three state-level winners from each class will be invited to New Delhi for one-day workshop on January 14th, 2025.
Participation in IMD’s 150th Foundation Day Celebration on January 15, 2025.
All travel and lodging expenses for the winners and one accompanying teacher or guardian will be covered by IMD.
National-Level Prizes
State-level top two winners from each class will compete at the National level. National winners will receive: 1st Place: Rs. 25,000, 2nd Place: Rs. 15,000 and 3rd Place: Rs. 10,000.
Additionally, certificates of participation (soft copies) will be awarded to all students who will complete the Olympiad.
