Paris: Preethi Pal becomes first track and field Indian woman to win two medals at Paralympics

India’s medal tally has increased to 7 with 1 gold, 2 silver and 4 bronze after Preethi Pal and Nishad Kumar added a bronze and a silver.

After giving India its first-ever medal for India in a track event at the Para Games by winning a bronze in the Women’s 100m T35, Preethi Pal has won her second Bronze in the Women’s 200m – T35 event. She also secured a personal best timing of 30.01 seconds.

She is now the first track and field Indian woman to win two medals at the Paralympic Games.

Also on Monday morning (IST), Nishad Kumar won his second consecutive silver medal at the Paralympic Games by clinching the silver medal in the Men’s High Jump – T47. The para-athlete also secured a new Season Best with a leap of 2.04 metres.

Kumar was a silver medallist at the Tokyo Paralympic Games 2020.

President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports have congratulated Preethi Pal and Nishad Kumar for their exceptional feats.

More medals are expected to be added to India’s tally on the 5th Day of the Games as the para-athletes play medal matches over 10 medal matches. India is currently placed at 27th position.
