The Japukong Students’ Conference (JKM) has urged the Nagaland Government and the concerned authorities to immediately construct a new building for Noklangsangba Government High School, Lirmen, after severe landslides rendered the existing campus unsafe for students and staff.

In a statement, the JKM said its president and executive members visited the school on July 27 to assess the damage caused by the landslides that struck the area on July 19.

During the visit, the delegation held a meeting with the Lirmen Village Council to review the extent of the damage and discuss possible alternative measures to ensure a safe, secure and conducive learning environment for students.

The assessment found that the school could no longer function safely at its present location as the land has become highly unstable, with a significant risk of further ground subsidence. The JKM warned that continuing classes at the existing site would pose a serious threat to the lives of students, teachers and other staff members.

The students’ body noted that while temporary arrangements may be put in place, the approaching end of the summer vacation has made it imperative to construct a new school building to ensure the safety of students and the uninterrupted continuation of academic activities.

Describing the situation as urgent, the JKM appealed to the Government and the concerned authorities to take immediate cognisance of the damage and initiate the construction of a new school building at the earliest.

The conference further urged the authorities to treat the matter as a priority and ensure that students are provided with a safe and suitable environment for learning without further delay.
