KCCI and WDCCI calls off indefinite shutter down in respective districts

Following the calling off of CNCCI’s indefinite shutter down across Nagaland, the Kohima Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KCCI) in a press release has informed the public of Kohima that all business activities may resume as normal from the receipt of the communique.

The officials of KCCI expressed its deepest appreciation to the business community, public and all mass based organisations for their cooperation, support and solidarity manifested during the period of shutter down.

“We thank you and further look forward to your kind cooperation as always,” mentioned the press communique.

The Wokha District Chamber of Commerce and Industry (WDCCI) has also lifted the indefinite shutter down following CNCCI’s decision. “In conformity with CNCCI on the satisfied outcome of the charter of demands laid down to the government, the imposed state-wide indefinite shutter down stands lifted in the district from 30’ April 2024,” stated a press release.

While acknowledging the general public for their support to the proposed cause, WDCCI further solicited the co-operation of the business community in the district.

The Confederation of Nagaland Chamber of Commerce & Industry  (CNCCI) is yet to issue an official statement.

In response to the Dimapur Chamber of Commerce (DCCI)’s charter of demands, the Home Department, Political Branch on April 29 requested the DCCI and CNCCI to call off the indefinite shutter down.

“The State Government assures taking necessary action in all the cases of extortion/illegal activities by multiple groups in the State,” stated the response.

On the query addressed to the State Government to clarify whether taxation imposed by NPG is legal or illegal, the State Government stated that it “does not support, and is fully against any illegal taxation or forcible demand or collection by any group entity or individual in the State.”

“Should the business community pay GST or Taxation to NPG’s? The State Government should reply in black and white?” was another charter demand to which the Government replied, “The GST or any other legal tax is to be paid only to the State Government by any business organization/individual.”

On the demand to criminalise summons of the business community to NPG offices, Camps and Monitoring Cell, the Government mentioned that only the statutory bodies/ law enforcement agencies of the State Government are empowered to issue summons to anyone who is in conflict with the law. “Summons by any other group/entity/individual is illegal and the aggrieved person may approach the law enforcing authorities for redressal of their grievances,” assured the Nagaland Government.

The DCCI in its statement had also demanded that raids on so called duplicate products , MRP tempering, expiry checking by NPG should be immediately declared as illegal and zero tolerance be maintained. In response, the Nagaland Government replied, “Only the statutory bodies are empowered to conduct raids by the State Government. , and Raids conducted by any other group/entity/individual is illegal and the aggrieved person may approach the law enforcing authorities for redressal of their grievances.”

On the issue of extortion, kidnapping and waylaid of transport, the State government mentioned that it has empowered the police and district administration to act upon each and every complaint in this regard swiftly and book the culprits under the law and National Security Act to ensure safety and security of every individual in the state. Any aggrieved person may approach the law enforcing agencies in this regard, added the State Government.
