A training on permaculture took place today at Hopongkyu Memorial Hall, Kiphire.
Permaculture is a practical approach of designing and developing agricultural ecosystems that are sustainable and self-sufficient. The principles of permaculture can be applied to both rural and urban settings, from house gardens, farms and the countryside to commercial and industrial areas and waste ground.
The event was organised by the Department of Land Resources (DoLR) Kiphire and Nagaland Forest Management Project & DMU under the PMKSY-WDC 2.0 programme.
PMKSY-WDC 2.0 stands for Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana (PMKSY) Watershed Development Component (WDC) 2.O – an area development programme initiated by the Department of Land Resources, Ministry of Rural Development.
Chubamongla Kichu, NCS, EAC Kiphire Hq was the special guest of the training programme. She said it was very encouraging and timely for a training on permaculture to be held in Kiphire as the district is in need of it.
Stating that permaculture brings many benefits for people, in terms of not only the economy but of health and ecology as well, she called upon the trainees to apply their learning and make it a movement for the people in the district to emulate.

Noting the potential for large scale production and market in permaculture, Kichu also encouraged the participants to apply their knowledge of the subject matter in practical ways.
The EAC gave assurances of support from the district administration whenever the need arises.
During the programme, Kichu also distributed hair salon tools and material to two PMKSY-WDC 2.O beneficiaries from Kiphire village.
Lipichem, DPO of the land resources department, shared the importance of permaculture and also highlighted the ethics and principal of permaculture.
“We need to take care of resources otherwise future generations will not be able to survive,” he stated.
Lipichum said the department has inhouse resource persons available to extend any help towards developing permaculture practices.
